Kay Garner has been singing for as long as she can remember. Her family was musical, with both maternal grandparents having been professional musicians. For her, music has been a way to share the gifts God has given her. She was a professional musician throughout the west coast for over 15 years, working with performers like Liberace, the Fifth Dimension, the Mills Brothers and more. While in Seattle and Los Angeles, she did repertory theatre productions of Fiddler on the Roof and the Fantastiks. She was also a guest soloist for the Seattle Symphony. However, she considers one of her career highlights as singing the National Anthem for the opening of the Dallas Cowboys/Tampa Bay Buccaneer Game in 1996.
Kay and her husband, Doug, have been married for over 30 years with a blended family of 5 children. When Kay married Doug, she gave up performing full time to follow him and raise their family. (Douglas is a retired Army pilot.) She completed a Masters in Counseling Psychology. She spent over 20 years developing and working in programs with children in crisis.
She has had the opportunity to present to the U.S. legislature on high risk children’s needs. Currently, she is a professor of Psychology at Valencia Community College. Kay continues to do some local performing but is a regular cantor in her church, Sts Peter and Paul, in Winter Park. She truly believes that “He who sings prays twice.”
